The goal was to build an 8-Lane Pinewood derby track.
Why 8-lanes? To give each scout an opportunity to race multiple times.
Races are timed, and the lowest sum of all the heats determines placement.
By using a timed race system, each car will race in every lane, thus there is no advantage of one lane being faster.
